Welcome to Jessica and her beautiful family to this weeks interview series of another Heartfelt Family Traveller.   I found Jessica on her Instagram account @thejetsettingfamily and just loved their fun, frivolity and dedication to making family travel a priority.  They have huge travel plans for 2018!  This is one family I’ll be following closely this year.  Thank you Jessica for taking part in our Heartfelt Traveller interview series.

Where can we find you on social media or website?

Our blog is www.thejetsettingfamily.com and would love for you to visit! On our blog, we post information from past adventures, travel tips, and information about what inspired our journey. We post most often to Instagram @thejetsettingfamily currently, but are also trying to build our Facebook  and YouTube  pages!

Where are you currently calling home?

Currently, we still call Colorado home, but we are in the process of selling everything we own to leave in June 2018 to travel full-time. Once we depart from Colorado, home will be wherever we are as a family!

Jetsetting Family 3 - Heartfelt traveller Jessica from The Jetsetting FamilyTell us about what family travel means to you?

Family travel to us means quality time together! We have found over the years we have gotten so busy with work and everyday life that we don’t spend enough quality time with our kids. Full-time travel allows us to spend every day with our kids and make new memories together. It is amazing getting to experience the world not only for yourself but through your children’s eyes! We marvel over architecture and the beauty of each new location, and our kids love the little things, like a new flavour of ice cream or a new park. The different perspective is fun to see!

What are your current or future travel plans and what is important for you when you consider a destination for your family?

Over the next few months, we are going to California, Washington DC, and Iceland. Our big trip starts in June 2018 in Southeast Asia. We plan to spend about a week or two in each location, starting with Bali, Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore and Vietnam. We then plan on heading to Australia and New Zealand before coming back to Colorado, New Mexico or California for the 2018 holidays. When considering a destination, we think about the overall experience we can have as a family. Although it would be great to backpack and stay at low-cost places like hostels, we prefer to find accommodation suitable for the whole family and try to plan for family-friendly activities, tours and adventures.

Jetsetting Family 2 - Heartfelt traveller Jessica from The Jetsetting FamilyHave you got a special way you document your travels?  A way to store the memories?

Over the past few years, Jessica has really developed some awesome photography skills! We plan to document our adventures mostly through pictures (that we post to our Instagram page), but we’re also trying to improve our videography so that we can capture more memories and be able to store them through our YouTube channel.

What would you say to others considering travelling as a family?  What advice would you offer?

For us, it was a huge milestone when we realized that there’s never a “best” time to travel as a family. As our kids get older, we expect that they’ll start to get attached to their favourite activities, friends, and routine, so we figured: why not now? Our advice would be to just get out there and plan a trip! There are always going to be reasons not to travel, but there are so many resources available to make your trip affordable, convenient and safe. Don’t have the money to travel? Take a look around your home and sell a few things! Don’t have the time or the job flexibility? Look into opportunities to telecommute or work remotely. It’s incredibly easy to become accustomed to your routine. And, while it’s very hard to plan a full-time travel lifestyle, it is absolutely something that any family can achieve if you put in the effort. If you have any questions regarding the planning process, overcoming the fears of family travel, or how to build an income online to sustain this lifestyle, don’t hesitate to contact us at hello@thejetsettingfamily.com!
