I’ve been following Erin and Travis on their amazing adventure for a little while now, but one morning Erin happened to go Live on your Insta Stories just when I had sat at my desk for my morning ritual of clicking on to see what my tribe were up to. Erin and her family had just parked their 30-foot campervan in a beautiful off-grid location and she was explaining their set up and plans for the next few days. I was entranced and quickly shot her off an email saying I just “had” to interview her and her adorable travelling family for this series. So without any more rambling from me…lets welcome my newest Heartfelt travelling family.
Heartfelt Traveller – Erin from Our Lively Tribe.
Who makes up your family?
We are Erin and Travis – a married couple with 3 boys aged, 9, 7 and 3.
Where can we find you on social media or website?
Facebook @OurLivelyTribe and
Where are you currently calling home?
We are currently sitting in a beautiful State Park in New Mexico, just outside of White Sands National Monument. We travel fulltime in a 30ft Travel Trailer that we renovated to feel like a tiny home.
Tell us about what family travel means to you?
Travel to our family means spending time together, taking in new adventures together and focusing on what is important in life, family and your loved ones. We have this opportunity to travel and see new and beautiful places and by doing this, we all get to be together. I also love that our kids are learning about so many parts of the United States not by reading a textbook, but by living it and seeing it with their own eyes.
What are your current or future travel plans and what is important to you when you consider a destination for your family?
When we started this journey, we told our friends and family we’d take one year off and travel. I see that quickly extending as we are now 8 months into our journey and don’t plan to stop anytime soon. We are currently heading east from California. A few of our stops include, San Antonio, Austin and Houston, Texas, New Orleans, Louisiana, a lot of Florida and then up towards Tennessee and Michigan. A lot of our destinations are based on places we want to see, places people recommend, and places where we have family and friends. We’ve made sure to visit as many National Parks that are along the way as well, as those always provide amazing learning opportunities and never a disappoint.
Have you got a special way you document your travels? A way to store the memories?
As photographers, we take so many images. Instagram has been a great way to document our every day and our biggest adventures. We’ve had fun going back and seeing where we started and how many places we’ve visited already. We don’t do YouTube as often as we’d like, but we have made several videos of some of our favourite stops and those have also been fun to revisit as well.
What would you say to others considering travelling as a family? What advice would you offer?
Just go. Stick to your ideas, wants and desires and just do it. It can be scary. There are a lot of unknowns and what-ifs. Yet, if this didn’t end up working out for us, we always knew we could go back to our hometown at any time and jump back into the lifestyle we were once living. That has yet to happen. Taking that first step is the hardest but its also the most fulfilling.
