Welcome to Clare and her family to this weeks interview for the Heartfelt Series.  I have been an avid follower of Clare since they sold their house to travel on a Gap Year with their two children.  Their philosophy about family travel and also the practical tips (I mean, budgeting $150 a day!) is real and inspiring.  Thank you, Clare and your wonderful family for featuring on Our Family Travels as a Heartfelt Traveller.  We wish you all the best as you continue your adventure.

Where are you currently calling home?

We are currently travelling through South East Asia after having left Australia almost 3 months ago. We are enjoying some time on Boracay Island in the Philippines at the moment. We plan to finish up this part of the world by visiting Japan in a couple of months, before heading west to the UK and Europe. That’s the loose plan anyway.

Tell us about what family travel means to you?

Family travel to us is all about quality time and being present. Living for now and with no regrets! Family time and being together and being together was the main reason for us in planning this gap year.

What are your current or future travel plans and what is important for you when you consider a destination for your family?

Our current plans are to be travelling around the globe for a year. Perhaps less, perhaps more than a year. We will just continue to travel together as long as we’re all still enjoying it.  We have a year planned out – but we will see how it all goes.  When planning our next leg – we look at what is relatively close by. No long haul flights.  Also, we look for good flight deals. We do our research, and look for good weather and good food!

Have you got a special way you document your travels?  A way to store the memories?

My blog: Her Life and Loves has evolved from a lifestyle blog, (which it has been for the past 2 years) into our travel journal. This, as well as our instagram feed, is helping us to document the adventure. Andrew has also been making YouTube videos which have been a great way to remember each place we visit. It is so important to document these memories and for family and friends back home to be able to share in our travels. A wonderful keepsake for us all. The children are also keeping a daily journal which is fabulous. They stick all kinds of memorabilia in there and write about each day, it’s very sweet.

What would you say to others considering travelling as a family?  What advice would you offer?

My advice is – if you can make it work, and if the whole family is up for it – then go for it!Do what you have to do to make your dream a reality. You will never, ever regret it!
