Heartfelt Traveller: Paola from The Pink Dumpling

Welcome back to The Heartfelt Series.  This week I had the pleasure of interviewing Paola from The Pink Dumpling, which is the cute as a button blog about family travel with style and fashion thrown in the mix.  I love Paola’s aesthetic and her approach to family travel is inspiring.   Born and raised in Italy, Paola is now living in Shanghai with her partner and for year old daughter Olivia, however,  travel to wonderful places is never too far away.  Their recent trip China has me blown away like in this post.

Thank you Paola for being part of this Heartfelt Series.

Who makes up your family?

We are an Italian couple with a baby girl named Olivia (nearly 4Y). Since 2008 we are based in Shanghai, where we both work in the fashion industry.

Where can we find you on social media or website?

Where are you currently calling home?

Since 2008 we are based in Shanghai, a fascinating city, full of contrasts. We love the dynamic environment, it’s vibe and how modern and old coexist harmoniously.

Tell us about what family travel means to you?

Ever since I am a little girl, I am used to travel. I love to discover new places, learn from different cultures, live the places as a local (in fact I am always searching for the less touristic routes). I am happy my little girl loves to travel too, and I am sure traveling is a sort of school outside school for kids. So much learning from new places, new people, new environment. It will surely give them confidence and the capacity to be open minded.

What are your current or future travel plans and what is important for you when you consider a destination for your family?

We are planning Hawaii in October, and some long week ends from Shanghai to Korea and Japan before Christmas. Currently we are living in Asia and we do not know for how long, so we try to take advantage of being in this part of the world to visit all the countries that would be difficult to visit from Europe (In fact we have been recently twice to New Zealand that is more than 24 hours from Italy, but only 10 from Shanghai). Also we try to visit always new places and combine leisure and culture. We love museums, parks, nature, wine tastings. Laying down on the beach for the whole day is not for us (unless is just for few days).

Have you got a special way you document your travels?  A way to store the memories?

I recently start to share all my travels in my blog (www.thepinkdumpling.it) and in my social media. I like to share my experiences with other travelers. It’s also a way to store my travel memories (and my year resolution is to print a book for every travel we make)

What would you say to others considering travelling as a family?  What advice would you offer?

Traveling as a family is amazing. You get out from the routine and you experience together a whole new world. Wouldn’t say is not tiring sometimes, but it’s just so enriching.
